چکیده

In this article we introduce an extension to the Discrete Event System (DEVS) formalism called Vectorial DEVS (VECDEVS) that allows to represent large scale systems in a graphic block diagram way. A pure VECDEVS model basically consist in an array of identical classic DEVS models that may differ in their parameters. The interconnection of VECDEVS models with some special classic DEVS models that can handle VECDEVS events allows to easily represent large systems of arbitrary structure. A noticeable feature of this extension is that VECDEVS models can be easily split for parallel simulation. For that purpose, we developed an algorithm that automatically splits VECDEVS models into an arbitrary number of sub-models for parallel simulation. The implementation of VECDEVS and the partitioning algorithm in a DEVS simulation tool is also described and its usage is illustrated through some application examples.

HIGH PERFORMANCE SIMULATION OF DEVS BASED LARGE SCALE CELLULAR SPACE MODELS by

Cellular space modeling is becoming an increasingly important modeling paradigm for modeling complex systems with spatial-temporal behaviors. The growing demand for cellular space models has directed researchers to use different modeling formalisms, among which Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) is widely used due to its formal modeling and simulation framework. The increasing complexit...

Parallel Discrete Event Simulation for DEVS Cellular Models using a GPU

This paper presents a parallel discrete event simulation (PDES) environment using graphics processing unit (GPU) to simulate cellular models described by the discrete event system specification (DEVS). The DEVS is a general system specification, and it helps the modeler to verify and validate the model. The parallel simulation algorithm for simulating the DEVS model has been well studied, and b...

Conservative vs. optimistic parallel simulation of DEVS and Cell-DEVS: a comparative study

The conservative Parallel DEVS protocol offers a novel approach that allows conservative simulation of DEVS-based PDES systems. The protocol is based on the classical Chandy-Misra-Bryant synchronization mechanism, and it extends the DEVS abstract simulator to provide means for lookahead computation and null-messages. We present a purely conservative simulator, called CCD++, designed for running...

Conservative Synchronization Methods for Parallel DEVS and Cell-DEVS

We present three conservative synchronization mechanisms for parallel DEVS and Cell-DEVS. The protocols are based on the classical Chandy-Misra-Bryant null message mechanism with deadlock avoidance. Our protocols provide a novel DEVS-based conservative approach that is deadlockfree, and extracts the lookahead information from the model’s specification. The protocols are integrated into the CD++...
